“Toronto Star - Letter from the City Editor - May 13th, 1935”

THE TORONTO STAR

EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT

County Secretary

County Orange Lodge of Toronto

Dear Sir:

Just as last year’s Loyal Orange Ceremonies helped to make noteworthy Toronto’s celebration of its centennial, so this year’s July event will ad grace to the commemoration of the Silver Jubilee of H.M. the King.

Through the kind advance cooperation of important officials of the order we were able to give the Orange celebrations a splendid display in 1934. You will recall that we had many photos of the new banners and officers, taken in advance, as well as photos of the parade.

Will you help us give the same good coverage in this Jubilee year? Here is what will help us most - - tell us when and where we may photograph new banners; send us a clear photograph of the leading officers in your lodge; write us a note (it need not be in literary style) telling anything interesting about your lodge, such as an anniversary this year: an aged member: a new band or any other feature which will interest the members of your lodge and others. The earlier you can give us this, the better chance we have to give your lodge a good display.

With kind regards,

Yours Sincerely,

John P. Herron

City Editor

A letter from the City Editor of The Star, asking for the Orange Lodges’ assistance so that they may provide adequate coverage of the Parade. Certainly a sign of the times, signifying the importance of the Orange Association in Toronto 1935.
