Why join the Orange Association?
The Orange Association affords men, the ability to gather together with people of like-minded ideals and opinions, and share these expressions of their lives with each other and support their brothers through the struggles of day-to-day life.
These ideals, principals and opinions are simple and basic. They are common to a Christian and are the guidelines and limitations he sets for himself in his daily life.
Simply put, an Orangeman is a Law-abiding Canadian, a Faithful Supporter of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada and of the British Commonwealth of Nations. That he will support and defend the Constitutional Monarchy, the democratic form of government in Canada, and Canada’s connection and membership in the Commonwealth of Nations. An Orangeman should treat all his brethren respectfully and honestly in all their endeavours together and warn him of any unfair actions or acts against him if he becomes aware of them. An Orangeman will Honour and Respect his wife as his equal partner in marriage. This same respect and honour is to be extended to all women. We remember that the civil and religious liberties that we enjoy here in Canada and received from the British Empire, were enshrined in the Constitution of Great Brittan and expressed in our own Constitution due to the Glorious Revolution, when in 1689 William III Prince of Orange with his wife Mary the daughter of James the II, were invited by the nobles of England to assume the vacant throne and secure these freedoms for their people. This was achieved after many battles the most notable was the Battle of the Boyne in Ireland in 1690. We commemorate this victory on July 12th annually or on such a day, as each lodge shall appoint for such a celebration. In Toronto we annually celebrate and hold our parade on the 2nd Saturday in July each year.
We profess our faith and belief in the Protestant faiths and are dedicated to raise up our children in this faith through the regular attendance at the Protestant church of our choice and in educating our children in public or protestant schools.
That we will always be aware of any political, religious or any other group who’s goal is to deprive us our civil and religious freedoms we cherish and are enjoyed by millions of people across Canada, and by all lawful means resist their attempts to increase their influence and power to achieve their ends. We also are reminded to refrain from all unkind words and make no unlawful action towards the members of such a group, recognizing that the purposes of the leaders of these factions may not be the motives or actions of their individual members.
We endeavour to observe the rules and regulations of the Orange Association as printed in our Constitution and Laws, and uphold the laws of the land. With all of this we seek the strength of God to help us live up to these high ideals and principals we have now taken as a personal obligation.
If these professed principals, ideals or opinions compare with your own, then why not consider asking for more information about our Association or the requirements of membership. We know you will be glad you took the time to find out more.
