Enniskillen Loyal Orange Lodge No. 387 Walks in Belfast, July, 1957
On July 12th, 1957 Enniskillen L.O.L. 387 of Toronto made history by being the first of many Canadian Lodges to walk in Belfast in the Annual Twelfth.
As a prelude to the trip a viewing of the film” A Stroll Through Ulster” was shown at the County Hall to over 130 guests on the evening of May 10th,1957. The room was packed with members and their wives who had a special charter to attend the parade in Belfast and walk with the new lodge banner. The editor of the sentinel was present and what stood out for W.J.Armstrong was “the consciousness in the audience of the deep love and feeling for the little country for which they had visited by means of the coloured film. Wor. Bro. N. Pedlar, the lodge master thanked all who had attended, as did Wor. Bro. J.R.Kerr, Immediate Past Master and Wor. Bro. T.Pryce, Past Master.
The Brethren and family flew from Malton Airport (Pearson Int’l) to Nutt’s Corners Airport in Belfast. Below is a photo of the lodge and their banner on display in Belfast.

At the Annual Orange Parade in Toronto on July 13th, 1957 over 100 members of Enniskillen L.O.L.387 walked behind the old banner, in a turnout that must have stirred the hearts of many as over 70 members of the lodge were in Belfast.
The first meeting of the lodge following their epoch-making trip was held on September the 13th. The atmosphere of that meeting was described as infectious with optimism and zeal to promote the Order. A further justification for this was the joining by certificate of four members recently arrived from Ulster and the initiation of two new candidates on the evening.
Wor. Bro. J.G.Patty, PM who had organized the flight described the trip and stated that words could not describe the hospitality they had received. Brother Patty presented to the lodge an Ulster Standard from their hosts in Belfast; Agnes Street Presbyterian L.O.L.1953. Also received from L.O.l.1953 was a beautiful bible inscribed in gold letters. A suitably inscribed set of gavels was received from the Agnes Street Silver Band who headed Enniskillen lodge on parade.
The three presentations were deemed to be graphically dramatic of the bond that exits between the Orangemen of Belfast and Toronto and stuck a deep resounding note in the hearts of the members present.
M.W.Brother W.J. Armstrong noted that the people of Ulster seeing a lodge come 3,000 miles to walk in the big parade now knew they did not stand alone in their struggle to remain in the United Kingdom.

The last Worshipful Master was George Brewer and the last Recording Secretary was William McLauchlan. The “new banner” reported upon in the article was presented to the County Orange Lodge of Toronto.

Celebrates “Hockey Day in Canada” – Feb 12th, 2011
The Social Committee of Tobermore L.O.L.2391, aka “F.O.O.L.s (Friends of Our Lodge), hosted an afternoon of Hockey on February 12th at the County Orange Hall in Toronto.
The day began with a lunch of lasagna, soup and hot drinks for the participants, their families and visitors. After lunch, the action moved outdoors with two teams of players, exhibiting varying skills, faced-off in a couple of games of ball hockey. The event coincided with CBC’s “Annual “Hockey Day in Canada” presentation on the National Network. The players spent the better part of the afternoon exhibiting their running, shooting, stick-handling and passing abilities in an effort to keep warm in the -7C weather.

"Participants at Hockey Day event".

"Some of the Action on February 12th".
Worshipful Master Tom Forster noted that “it was one of the best events hosted by the Social Committee in a long time” and that “the involvement of entire families certainly contributed to the success”. The success of the event and the enjoyment of those taking part will likely make this day a fixture on the Lodge’s calendar of events.
On Saturday April the 9th, Tobermore L.O.L.2391 will hold a social event at the County Orange Hall. The evening will include popular board games for the adults and movies and popcorn for the youngsters.

Toronto Lodge Contributes to War Effort
July 12/1915 - Toronto Lodge Contributes to War Effort
Patriotic fervour and support of the War effort were no doubt running rampant when Queen City L.O.L.857 met on the morning of July 12th, 1915. The following is a newspaper account of what transpired at that meeting:
Queen City L.O.L.
Donates $765.
Contributions Sufficient at Early
Session to Buy a Machine-Gun
Queen City L.O.L.875 today subscribed $765.00, to buy a machine-gun for the British Government.
The lodge met in the Metropolitan Methodist (United) Church prior to parading to Exhibition Park. Ex-Alderman, G. J. St.Leger, moved that a subscription for the purchase of a gun be started and the Worshipful Master, A. R. Hassard declared “there was no time like the present.”
A member enquired, “How much does a machine-gun cost.”
Another replied, “$765.00.”
Mr. St.Leger noted he would “pay whatever balance there may be after the subscriptions were all in.”
Mr. St.Leger and Mr. John Farquhar were appointed treasurers, and lists prepared by Mr. Hassard were passed round among the two hundred members of the lodge who were present. Ten-dollar and five-dollar subscriptions came pouring in, and the sum was soon raised.
Thereupon the lodge sang “God Save the King” and went off to enjoy itself at the Exhibition Grounds.

Tuesday February 7th, 1922 is a day that will live long in the memories of all who were privileged to be present when the inaugural meeting of Birchcliff L.O.L.2856 was held at the splendidly equipped Men’s Club, Stop 19, Kingston Road.

Note: L.O.L.215 referred to in this article has been found to be known as various names such as; Leslieville, East Toronto, Little York, Cedarvale and Coronation. As Coronation Orange Lodge it amalgamated with Birchcliff Lodge in the early 1970’s. Some of the present members may recall Art Brown and Alvin Hagar as members of L.O.L.215.
