July 12th, 1944 . . . . A Message from the County Master
Almost five years have passed, and yet we are in the midst of the greatest struggle mankind has ever been called upon to undergo: the flower of our manhood and womanhood swept away from their homes and loved ones, so that the principles which the Loyal Orange Association has always contented for should and shall always be maintained as on this day we celebrate in memory of King William, Prince of Orange.
Our Association has passed through a great testing time, and will be called upon for greater and further sacrifices to maintain the heritage passed down to us from our forefathers. Let us ever be worthy of our birthright, and whatever sacrifices we are called upon to make for our loved ones, may we, members of the Association, and all those who have answered the call of duty, willingly deprive ourselves so that they may know and feel we are truly with them, not merely in lip service of glib speeches, but in actual sweat and toil, the doing without of comforts, that they may be assured of the full necessities of war.
Let us see to it that the country for which they fight shall fully recognize the great debt they owe to their patriotism and loyalty, and use our utmost efforts to have all Governments so amend and change the old order that they shall return to a better land to live in, one worthy of their great endeavour, one worthy of those who shall not return, a memorial to those who served till death.
Let us return to the faith of our fathers, re-dedicate ourselves to God, reaffirm our allegiance to His Majesty the King, uphold the Law, defend the Flag, and, as always, let our motto be: “Equal rights to all, special privileges to none” and “No Surrender” to any race or creed of the English language and Public Schools.
To those of our Order and to all peoples of our Allies, who have died in the cause of our Empire’s great struggle, we extend to their loved ones our deepest sympathy; we grieve with them in their sorrow; we commend their loved ones to God’s gracious care and keeping.
Lastly, we let our prayers be for His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, the President of the United States, and all the Allied leaders, the Navy, Army and Air Force, and all in authority over them. May they be guided and directed to a glorious Victory, and the Four Freedoms be ours and we be worthy of them.
